You have to open a local bank account before you can buy a property in Las Palmas or anywhere in Gran Canaria.
Opening one is a simple operation that takes less than an hour in any bank.
But first, you have to have your NIE number.
Opening A Non-Residents Bank Account
You can theoretically open a non-resident bank account with just your passport, but Las Palmas most banks won’t do it. If you find a bank that will, be aware that charges are high and there are lots of things you can’t do with it.
It’s much better to open a bank account in Las Palmas once you have your NIE number.
Getting an NIE is easy once you have signed an arras contract that commits you to buy a property.
For info about getting your NIE number, see Gran Canaria Guru’s excellent guide.
